A couple years ago I watched Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor live from The Met (via Nebraska) starring Anna Netrebko (who, incidentally, was nearly upstaged by Natalie Dessay, the theatrical backstage commentator / diva) with my good friend Kelly. This year it is Donizetti's Maria Stuarda starring Joyce DiDonato, and I had the good fortune to watch the telecast with my friends Caterina and Patricio who enjoyed the Italian lyrics without the stilted English subtitles. Thank goodness for Live in HD!
