Ben Schuh

23 Shots of Espresso

Traffic Jam

Progression of Blocks

I came across Ben Schuh's works three years ago at the Lincoln Arts Festival. I still haven't forgotten his textured and colorful paintings, and I fully intend to check out his latest work when he is in Lincoln in a couple of weeks. I appreciate Schuh's ability to capture Iowa farmscapes in a modernly beautiful and cosmopolitan way (however antithetical "modern," "cosmopolitan," and "Iowa farmscapes" might be). I also love how he juxtaposes paintings of country barns and farmsteads alongside notable city scenes such as the Millennium Park bean or Times Square or the ubiquitous urban traffic jam. He also takes on portrait painting (Albert Einstein, Barack Obama, Andy Warhol), although I tend to gravitate toward place-based artworks as opposed to human-centric ones.
